  19. <p>     At International Business Machines last year, they thought
  20. everything that could go wrong for the computer company did.
  21. Market share fell in every single product line; the once
  22. unshakable firm was forced to revoke a 78-year policy against
  23. involuntary layoffs; and it recorded losses of $3 billion. This
  24. year isn't shaping up any better. Standard & Poor's stripped IBM
  25. of its prized triple-A credit ranking, lowering it three notches
  26. to double-A-minus. That will adversely affect some $19 billion
  27. worth of senior debt. Last March, Moody's Investors Service
  28. downgraded IBM's debt rating.
